Our area will likely begin getting some fringe effects from Tropical Storm Lee today. Please refer to the following link for details:

Emergency Manager Severe Weather Briefing September 3, 2011---Page 1
In this update:
 Fringe effects from Tropical Storm Lee will begin today and last into Tuesday.
Key Points for this event:
 The main impacts from Lee for our area will be:
o Heavy rain
o Dangerous rip currents, high surf, and hazardous boating conditions
o Isolated tornadoes
IR satellite image and Mean Sea Level Pressure at 5 AM CDT
The current weather picture and event summary:
Tropical Storm Lee was centered about 75 miles southwest of Morgan City Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of 50 MPH. Lee was moving north at
5 MPH, and will likely reach the Louisiana coast later today or tonight. Lee was not a classic-looking tropical storm (as this IR satellite image shows), as nearly all of the showers and thunderstorms were in the eastern semicircle (as opposed to surrounding the center).
Emergency Manager Severe Weather Briefing September 3, 2011---Page 2
This relatively poor organization likely means that Lee will not intensify into a hurricane, making it more of a rain threat than a wind threat.
This is the official forecast track from the National Hurricane Center for Tropical Storm Lee, issued at 5 AM EDT Saturday. Note that Lee is not expected to become a hurricane. Also note there were no watches or warnings in effect east of Destin, Florida.
Emergency Manager Severe Weather Briefing September 3, 2011---Page 3
As Lee moves slowly inland later today and Sunday, rain will gradually spread from southwest to northeast across our area. The rain will begin at the Florida Panhandle coast today, then spread farther inland tonight and Sunday, and last through Monday night or Tuesday before tapering off. The following image is the projected storm total rainfall from today through Monday:
Although these rainfall totals would not have a major impact (especially since they will be spread out over a period of 2 days), isolated rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 times these amounts can often occur when a tropical cyclone moves inland. Thus isolated amounts exceeding 10 inches are possible, and that could cause flooding if it occurs during a fairly short time frame.
Surf heights along the Florida Panhandle Beaches will be 5 to 7 feet today (with occasional higher sets possible), and may increase to 10 feet by Monday. This will create very dangerous conditions for swimmers through at least Tuesday. Some beach erosion is also possible. Tides of 1 to possibly 2 feet above normal tide levels are expected Sunday through Monday night along the Panhandle and Big Bend beaches. Typically, these tide levels do not have a major impact on our coast line.
Emergency Manager Severe Weather Briefing September 3, 2011---Page 4
There is a 2% chance (within 25 miles of a point) of a tornado along our Panhandle coast today and tonight, as brief tornadoes occasionally develop with landfalling tropical cyclones. This threat will likely spread a bit farther inland Sunday as the dry air currently in place gradually moistens. There could be a more significant tornado threat for much of our region Monday and Monday night as Lee makes his point of closest approach.
Summary:
 The outer rain bands from Tropical Storm Lee will begin to spread across the region later today and Sunday. This rain could be heavy at times, especially in the Florida Panhandle.
 High surf and frequent, strong rip currents will be extremely dangerous for swimmers, and the very high seas and strong winds will also be hazardous to boaters.
 Isolated tornadoes are possible along the Florida Panhandle coast today & tonight. This threat may spread inland and increase Sunday and Monday.

UPDATED @ 8:00 PM DEVELOPING: Bad Ozark Accident

Tropical Storm Lee nearly stationary off Louisiana coast, will drifts north-northeast this weekend.

Emergency Manager Tropical Storm Lee Briefing Sept. 2, 2011---Page 1
In this update:
 Tropical Storm Lee nearly stationary off Louisiana coast, will drifts north-northeast this weekend.
Newly named tropical storm Lee continues to wobble south of the Louisiana coast as a nearly stationary tropical system. As of late Friday morning the center of the storm was located approximately 200 miles southwest of New Orleans. Maximum sustained winds are currently 40 mph continue with higher gusts. As you can see below, the system is expected to remain offshore of Louisiana until very early Monday morning.
Emergency Manager Tropical Storm Lee Briefing Sept. 2, 2011---Page 2
The majority of the guidance has not changed much in the past 24 hours but has come in better agreement in moving T.S. Lee slowly northeast towards southeast Louisiana through Labor Day and into southern or central Alabama by Wednesday. The system may approach hurricane strength just prior to landfall given the very warm water in that portion of the gulf.
***Please note that if this storm expands more than is currently expected, or turns earlier or faster to a northeast heading, impacts would increase late this weekend into more of our region.***
Emergency Manager Tropical Storm Lee Briefing Sept. 2, 2011---Page 3
A large area of showers and thunderstorms remains along the eastern portion of the storm with a broken bands of showers extending off the coast of the Florida panhandle Friday afternoon. At this time it appears much of the shower activity associated with this slow moving system will remain along the Florida Panhandle coast westward across southern Louisiana into Saturday. However as the storm strengthens and begins to drift more northeastward early next week, a larger radius of gusty winds and rainfall would overspread nearly all the Florida Panhandle, far southwest Georgia and all of southeast Alabama.
Primary impacts continue to focus on high surf and rip currents along the Florida beaches from Franklin county westward beginning today, as well as a larger area of 2-4” rainfall from Sunday through Tuesday. Given the slow movement of the storm and the possibility of stationary bands of rain becoming established, higher rain totals may occur for localized areas. A low tornado threat may also become apparent later this weekend if the storm does strengthen and moves closer to our region.
Radar data from 1030am EDT Friday
48 hr rainfall totals from Sunday to Tuesday afternoon
Emergency Manager Tropical Storm Lee Briefing Sept. 2, 2011---Page 4
Key Points for this event:
 Impacts, if any, should be confined along the Panhandle coast and western inland counties into southeast Alabama through Saturday, where showers and thunderstorms could increase as the system grows.
 Beach goers in the Florida Panhandle through the holiday weekend will see high surf and a high rip current risk.
 Coastal flooding is expected to remain minimal at this time across our part coastal areas from Franklin county westward, although 1-1.5 ft of above normal tides can be expected.
 Minimal impacts over Georgia and Florida Bend counties are expected at this time through Saturday, although clouds and showers may increase.
 Impacts are forecast to become more apparent later in the weekend into early next week.
 While beneficial rains will be welcome with this slow moving impulse, hazardous conditions from an isolated tornado and localized flooding cannot be ruled out.
 All should keep a close eye on this impulse and monitor the latest guidance from the NHC.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee will continue to monitor this system closely. If you have any questions, please give our office a call at 850-942-883,3 or on our toll free line at 800-598-4562, and ask to speak to a meteorologist. Tropical disturbance expected to evolve into a tropical cyclone by the weekend

In this update:
 Tropical disturbance expected to evolve into a tropical
cyclone by the weekend.

An area of disturbed weather in the central Gulf of Mexico continues to be watched very
closely.  As of late Thursday morning, the National Hurricane Center places a 70% chance for
growth into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 48 hours, although no identifiable
low pressure area has been noted at the surface.

Emergency Manager Severe Weather Briefing Sept. 1, 2011---Page 2
Once a center of low pressure is indentified, the system would likely be upgraded, as winds
aloft become more favorable for growth.   Most of the forecast models for the past couple of
days develop this area into a tropical storm. The majority of the guidance moves the system
slowly northwest towards the Louisiana coast, where it then stalls.   There is a large amount of
uncertainty in all aspects of this impulse, especially since no center has been identified, which is
important for the forecast models.  The various forecast tracks are shown below as of early
Thursday morning.

Emergency Manager Severe Weather Briefing Sept. 1, 2011---Page 3
Key Points for this event:

 Possible Tropical Storm evolution in the Gulf of Mexico over the next day or two.
 Uncertainty is much higher than normal, especially since no organized center has
been identified.
 At this time, system is expected grow into a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm
as it meanders northwest towards Louisiana over the next two days.
 Impacts, if any, should be confined along the Panhandle coast and western inland
counties into southeast Alabama where showers and thunderstorms could increase
as the system grows.
 Beach goers in the Florida Panhandle over the holiday weekend will likely see high
surf and could see beach closures due to the rip current and high surf threats.
 Minimal impacts over Georgia and Florida Bend counties are expected at this time
through Saturday, although clouds and showers may increase.
 Evolution and track of this impulse too uncertain to give any definitive statements
regarding impacts late in the holiday weekend and into early next week.
 All should keep a close eye on this impulse and monitor the latest guidance from
the NHC.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee will continue to monitor this system closely. If
you have any questions, please give our office a call at 850-942-883,3 or on our toll free line at
800-598-4562, and ask to speak to a meteorologist. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a

Jessica Callaway, 21, was arrested on Saturday after the video was turned over to police. Gilbert investigators said Callaway confessed to the abuse and even admitted to more. "Jessica blew [marijuana] smoke in the baby's mouth in order for the baby to stop crying," authorities wrote in court documents. "This has happened more than once," they wrote. Callaway told police she was having a bad day and could not find an outfit to wear for the night, and that's what led to the incident, according to investigators

Sarasota FL- Army Dad Opens Up A Can Of Whoop Ass On Bank Robber

Iraq war veteran Army Staff Sgt. Eddie Peoples was home on leave, spending it with his family in Sarasota, Fla. Tuesday Eddie and his two boys ages 4-6 were in line at the bank, and found themselves in the middle of a bank robbery.
The gunman ordered everyone on the floor and threatened to kill anyone who didn’t comply. Staff Sgt. Eddie Peoples quickly hid his two son’s behind two chairs standing off to the side, to keep any attention or danger away from his children’s hiding spot.
As the bank robber was getting ready to flee, Eddie remembers the gunman saying something close too, “Don’t try anything or the kiddie will get it.”‘ That’s when the switch flipped on in the Staff Sgt’s head.
Peoples left his two son’s in the bank, and chased after the bank robber in the parking lot.  The robber got in his white van, and Eddie got into his car as well. The robber attempted to reverse out of the parking lot, but Eddie was using his vehicle pushing the van forward, so it couldn’t get away. The suspects tires wound up spinning in place.
The frustrated robber got out of his van, and banged on Peoples window, and tried to open the door. Peoples finally opened the door, and the robber put the pistol directly on the Staff Sgt’s forehead. Big mistake!
“When he put that gun in my face after I got out of the car, I did a wrist lock on him. Got him in a half Muay Thai clinch around the back of the neck. Brought him down to the ground.”
Eddie says his goal was to prevent the robber from fleeing the scene of the crime, until police had time to get there.  One police arrived, Staff Sgt. Eddie Peoples walked back into the bank to get his boys, when one of them asked :
“Did you kick that bad guy’s butt?” And I said, ‘Yeah, Daddy got him,’ and there were three dozen in there, and they started clapping and applauding and everything, so then I gave them all hugs.”
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office identified the bank robber as 34-year old Matthew Rogers, a homeless Sarasota man with a criminal history, including arrests for burglary, auto theft and reckless driving.
