George Beck getting sworn in as US attorney

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The new U.S. attorney for Alabama's Middle District is scheduled to be sworn in office.
Montgomery lawyer George Beck takes office during a ceremony Wednesday at the federal courthouse.
Beck was selected by President Obama and approved by the U.S. Senate on a voice vote last week. He replaces Leura Canary, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush
Beck is a former deputy state attorney general who helped prosecute Bob Chambliss for the 1963 bombing of the 16th Avenue Baptist Church in Birmingham He also represented former state agency director Nick Bailey, who pleaded guilty to federal crimes and helped convict his former boss, Gov. Don Siegelman, in 2006. Now Beck will be running the U.S. attorney's office that prosecuted Siegelman.
