Severe Thunderstorms possible this afternoon and evening

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop all across the tri-state area this afternoon and into the evening. Helping to enhance this activity will be an approaching outflow boundary left over from earlier thunderstorms across northern Georgia and Alabama.

This boundary, combined with the moist and unstable atmosphere already in place, will set the stage for a few severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Damaging straight line winds will be the primary threat from these storms, along with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.

At this time, the greatest threat for severe weather appears to be across Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and the eastern Florida Panhandle, where the atmosphere is most unstable and the influence of the southward moving outflow boundary will be greatest.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be issued for this region later this afternoon.

Note: Red-shaded area indicates the highest threat for damaging winds.
Summary:
Severe thunderstorms possible across the area this afternoon and evening
Greatest severe potential is across Southeast Alabama and areas in Southwest Georgia down into the Florida.
Primary threat is damaging straight-line winds.
Threat should diminish by late in the evening.
