CSX officials investigate train derailment in Calera, AL this afternoon



CALERA, Alabama -- CSX officials and Calera police are investigating the cause of a train derailment this afternoon near U.S. 31 in Calera.
CSX Spokeswoman Carla Groleau said the incident occurred at 4 p.m. Near the Calera CSX Yard. Two locomotives and one box car left the rails on a train with 65 cars carrying a cargo of maintenance rocks, which was en route to Birmingham.
about 100 gallons of fuel spilled. One rail employee has minor injuries. There are no evacuations.
By late afternoon, police, fire and railroad workers had the area around the yard sealed off as cleanup work began.
