MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Former Alabama Gov. Bob Riley is continuing to recover in a Fairbanks, Alaska hospital after being hurt in a motorcycle accident.
Riley's son, Rob, was in Fairbanks Tuesday at the hospital with the former governor. Riley's former chief of staff, Dave Stewart, said Rob Riley reported that his dad was in good spirits and "joking with the nurses and doctors."
Riley was injured Sunday afternoon in an accident on a dirt and gravel road near Fairbanks. Stewart said it was raining and the former governor "had to lay the motorcycle down" to avoid losing control.
A spokeswoman for Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Lisa Johnson, said Riley remained in fair condition Tuesday.
The 66-year-old former governor was on a long planned cross-country motorcycle trip from his hometown, Ashland, to Alaska.
