MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Fire alerts have been cancelled for all 67 Alabama counties thanks to rain that has spread across the state in recent weeks.
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley and State Forrester Linda Casey on Monday rescinded the drought emergency and no burn order that had been in effect for Mobile, Baldwin and Monroe counties. Alabama Forestry Commission officials said the fire alert has been lifted for all Alabama counties.
But commission officials said 12 Alabama counties remain under an order by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management that prohibits burning during summer months for air quality reasons. Those counties are Baldwin, DeKalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Lawrence, Madison, Mobile, Montgomery, Morgan, Russell, Shelby and Talladega.
Commission officials ask that anyone burning outdoors continue to follow safety recommendations such as not leaving a fire unattended.
