Bentley creates alliance to help create Ala. jobs

Associated Press
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has formed a new group that will focus on recruiting new businesses into Alabama, retaining existing businesses and creating new jobs.
The group is called the Alabama Economic Development Alliance and it was created Tuesday by executive order by Bentley.
The alliance brings together various agencies and individuals currently involved in economic development to work together, including the Alabama Development Office, the two-year college system and the University of Alabama System.
Former House Speaker Seth Hammett will chair the effort until a strategic plan is completed in 2011. After that the alliance will be chaired by ADO Director Greg Canfield.
Bentley said the goal of the alliance is to develop Alabama's first statewide strategic plan for creating jobs.
