A Columbus teen is facing involuntary manslaughter charges following an accidental shooting this weekend.

Shaw High School senior Joseph Conner Weeks was killed over the weekend after police say his friend accidentally shot him.

Morgan Springer, 17, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
Police say he was holding the gun when it discharged, killing Weeks.

Springer has already been booked in Muscogee County jail and bonded out on $6,000.

Monday, grief counselors were on hand at Shaw High School to help students deal with the loss of one of their classmates.
Within hours of the news of Weeks' death, his friends and family members started a memorial page on Facebook for him.
The Muscogee County coroner tells News Leader 9 that Weeks' body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy following his shooting death Saturday night.
The preliminary result of the autopsy says the cause of his death was from a single gunshot wound to his upper right torso.
Funeral services for Weeks will be held Thursday, October 20 at Cascade Hills Church at 11:00 a.m.

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home located at 3874 Gentian Boulevard in Columbus.
