Woman sues over son's death at Partlow center

By Associated Press
TUSCALOOSA, Al- A woman is suing the state over her son's death at a mental health center in Tuscaloosa.
Barbara Prescott filed suit Tuesday claiming 49-year-old Anthony Roy Prescott choked to death after being left unsupervised last year at the Partlow Developmental Center.
The suit says the man was severely mentally disabled and had a history of binge eating that meant he required constant supervision. The suit says he choked to death after going into a closet and eating cheese crackers. He died at a hospital the next day, on Nov. 1, 2010.
A lawyer for the family, Tommy James, says patients are left alone without proper supervision too often in the state's mental health system.
The Alabama Department of Mental Health didn't have any immediate response to the lawsuit.
