BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry is telling Alabama Republicans it's time to reduce the size of government and make the country friendlier to job-creating businesses.
Perry spoke at a fundraising dinner for the Alabama GOP on Friday night. The appearance came on the eve of his expected presidential announcement.
The conservative successor to one-time Texas Gov. George W. Bush didn't refer directly to his presidential plans. But he did ask audience members to send him a text message to get their phone numbers in his databank.
Perry called the federal government a "sprawling mess" that needs to be returned to the limited sized envisioned by the nation's founders in the Constitution.
